I have been in discussion with Dean of SML about foosapalooza this year. He has proposed 3 weekends in april as his options for when the tournament will take place. I hope he doesn't pick the easter weekend. He has asked me to run the event, as well as promote it within the foosball community. I'm not sure if I want to do this, as it would make it really hard(or against the rules?) for me to play in the event too. Has anyone done this before?
Could we get it ITSF Sanctioned?
How big of a payout would I need to guarantee for it to be worth other canadians to travel?
There's no rules that would stop you from playing in the same event that you are running. You just need to have the time to play - and that usually means having others that can cover for you while you play your matches.
Also since you'll likely be the tournament director, you'll need someone else to make the 'tournament director' calls if your involved in the dispute as a player.
It's likely to late to get ITSF Sanctioning, but it never hurts to ask. all they can say is no. There's a page on the ITSF website, where we can request sanctioning. Usually they like at least a few months between when the event is announced, and when it runs. But the sooner the better here.
Payout. as big as you can get SML to guarantee. It also helps if there's other reasons to attend the event (maybe highest canadian finishers get on team canada - or it counts in the points race thing i talk about in this thread: http://tablesoccerca.ning.com/forum/topics/agenda-1?id=1985405:Topi....
money talks, but its not the only thing that motivates people to attend. if you call it, The Canadian Open, or National Championships'. that too might motivate players to attend as well. I'm only partially joking here, but i think you get my drift.
Alright, SML won't guarantee any payouts, although they expect we can get $7000 again. Last year had a very poor turnout because of the snow storm, and we can probably improve on that if I put in the effort. We will have a bunch of new rookies out for it from edmonton anyway because of the weekly's we have been running.
The date is semi-firm set for April the 17-20 and I will anounce the tournament along with its flier next week.
We will have 10-15 new T-3000's. If we have a good turnout from the preregistration, we will bring in a handful of T-2000's for the beginner and rookie events, while the semi-pro/open will be played on the T-3000's. We will be using the same ball as is being used at the HOFC.
I have contacted the ITSF to attemt to recieve sanctioning, it is a bit of a long shot i feel at this point, but it would help for bringin in top end players.
Earl, you can if you would like, but I would wait until it is officially announced. I am planning on posting it on every board I can think of as soon as SML tells me that its 100% a go. We should be announcing that next week, however they havn't confirmed 100%, so I don't want to do that either.
Eric, the ITSF has said that I need to contact you for our federations access to there site. Could you either submit this event to them (once this is official) or pm/email me the login to the ITSF site?
Yeah I though that was why you hadn't posted it anywhere else, that's why I stopped myself from posting.
I will see the core group of players at this Friday's DYP (as I make my monthly appearance) - so I'll just give them all a verbal heads up that somethings in the works.
So this isn't going to happen, but I have heard Brian L has plans to have a tournament in Calgary in early May. I'll be running an edmonton event pre worlds I think.
