So how was the tournament? I saw the results posted on the foosball board. How was the turnout, venue and tournament. Did the new format work out well? Were the sponsors happy?
32 open doubles teams and 58 players in open singles.
Everyone really liked the format, I didn't hear any complaints on the group stage format. Maybe having a way to separate the players that go unbeated could be found. In singles Matt B was the number one seed and Tony and Ryan were in the same bracket (with Kane also) and that was a pretty unfortunate.
The sponsors I am going to talk to tomorrow... we'll see what they think. We were hoping for about 100 players.
The venue was probably the biggest hit - everyone loved it. Tony Spredeman said it was the best venue he had played in and that he was impressed. Everyone had fun, the tournament came off way better than I had even hoped and most people said it was there favorite tournament ever.
I think the format really did make the difference in the end, everyone gets to play lots of foosball and every game is important.

Absolutely a great job Will, big kudos to you and your team. I think the turn-out would have been at least 25% greater if the economy wasn't impacting players.
I think the format was very good, round-robin lets rookies get some experience playing higher-ranked players, and all the teams get a warm-up. Then seperate brackets allows all the teams to get down to business... if time permits, I'd suggest 3/5 in A side in the future, with win by 2 each 5th game.
The venue was set-up great, table locations, sitting areas, lighting.. all top-notch. My only complaint would be that the service (for drinks and food) was not up to par (half the time I got the impression their staff was either new, confused, or undermanned).
All in all a great job, and I hope this becomes a long tradition going forward.
