I would like to start gathering sponsorship for TSAC. I have typed out a letter that I would like to submit to our board before I start sending it out to Corporations, Organizations, and Businesses. Please review and suggest changes or find mistakes within my attachment.
There was not too much for positive response in regards to sponsoring TSAC, most sponsors that I contacted either said they would prefer to sponsor an event rather than a team. Because of that I decided to run nationals, and I figured the money was best spent by putting it towards prize money. I don't think you would overlap the companies I was talking to - and if you did it couldn't be a bad thing because it would help them to see that more people care about foos :)
I think your best bet is just to send out 20 emails that are kind of similar. You have to contact the advertising department and the "sponsorship" section if they have one - people handing out sponsorships are less interested than people you can show all the benefits they get for a VERY small cost.
You could easily contact a local TV station by email and tell them you are the Canadian National Champion, and that you are looking to find sponsorship to represent the team. They would come down and get you on the news for sure. 100% of the mediaI have spoken with have given me airtime/coverage.
If you can offer sponsors TV spots/Newspaper article with a picture of you or something like that the advertising aspect becomes more important than the fact it is also a donation to a non-profit organization. They have no trouble finding non-profit organization's to give money to, but giving them that much back for not too much money is great.
One thing we should work on as a Federation is getting government funding. Look at the Italian Federation.
These guys have so much government funding/major sponsors they don't know what to do with it. I think getting Government funding would be one route that we could explore. Probably to late for this year, but it would be nice because then we could get money anually to pay for these expenses.
I'm not an expert in any of this but maybe try one of those ideas if you are looking for a place to start.
